Alexander H. Beard, Jr. died peacefully at his home in New York City on May 1, 2026. He was born in New York City in 1942 and graduated from Yale College in New Haven, CT, with a degree in Political Science. Commissioned through ROTC, he served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army from 1965-1967, and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Following his military service, Alex earned an MBA in Accounting and Finance from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. He went on to a career as a Certified Public Accountant, working with firms like Price Waterhouse, United Brands, General Host and Coopers & Lybrand.

Alex was married to Judy, his beloved wife of 57 years, who predeceased him in 2022. Together, the couple built a life centered on family, faith, and community. They were devoted members of St. Bartholomew’s Church in New York City for more than 50 years. Alex is survived by his son Jeremy (Lindsay) of New York, his daughter Valerie (Wilson) of California, three grandchildren and a brother.

Reserved by nature, Alex valued loyalty and tradition. He was an active member of the Yale Club of New York City, where he served on both the House and Audit Committees. As a lover of music and the arts, Alex enjoyed attending concerts at the New York Philharmonic and visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art with Judy, where she generously volunteered her time. He also delighted in weekday lunches at Neary’s Pub and Sundays after church at Smith & Wollensky’s, favorite rituals that brought together family, friends and conversation.

Alex’s remains will be interred in St. Bartholomew’s Columbarium, and a funeral service will be held at St. Bartholomew’s at 2pm on Saturday, August 29.

Contributions in Alex’s memory can be made to St. Bartholomew’s Church in New York City or the American Heart Association.
